Wave Invitation

Acrylic on canvas
14.5 x 15 inches

I was inspired to paint 'wave invitation' whilst walking the coastal path in Cornwall. I came across this stunning beach and instantly fell in love with the quality of light and the intense aqua blue colour of the sea.
The figure in the painting is of my partner who couldn't wait to take his shoes off and paddle into the refreshingly cool sea after such a long walk.
This was a delight to paint as it provided me with all the elements that I could ask for, stunning light, intense 'jewel like' colour and the simplest of compositions.
I particularly love painting coastal scenes as they take me back to my childhood days at the beach, I was always fascinated by the shimmering light and liquid ripples of pure colour. I still experience that rush of childlike exhilaration when my feet hit the powdery sand, a timeless connection to pure joy!
